The Dubai World Cup Snippy Pick of the Day

Race: The Dubai World Cup
Race Time: 1:30 PM EST
My Pick: Albertus Maximus
Betfair current price: 4.8

This is the world's richest race with a purse of $6 million.

The trends:

The last 10 winners had all run a minimum of 8 times
The last 9 winners had all had one run so far that season finishing 1st or 2nd
The last 10 winners were all trained by S Bin Suroor or in the US
Four or Five year olds have won 9 of the last 10 World Cups races
Eight of the last ten were already Grade 1 or Group 1 winners
Eight of the last ten had won at the distance

Not to bore you, but if I go through the trends Albertus Maximus stands out.

My Indy is of interest, but in the end you have to pick one horse.

IBM layoffs, is it the smart thing to do, is it moral?

IBM Corp. plans to lay off 5,000 U.S. employees in a new round of job cuts, that represents 4% of IBM's U.S. workforce.

And it is reported that those jobs are shifting to India.

"In an effort to re-balance skills, eliminate redundancies, and deliver greater economic efficiencies, IBM Global Business Services is announcing a resource action affecting US employees in Application Services," says an IBM document dated March 26th.

And IBM is not alone in this, Agilent Technologies said Thursday that it plans to lay off 2,700 staffers while Microsoft earlier this year announced 5,000 layoffs.

IBM U.S. workforce is down from 115,000 workers in 2008 to 127,000 in 2006. The company now employs more than 70,000 workers in India.

However IBM is also seeking contracts in those countries. For example IBM signed a $600 million contract with Vodafone for wireless services in India.

So is this a smart thing for IBM to be doing?

For their shareholders, yes, for us, no.

If this economic meltdown has not yet sunk in for everyone, it should now.

A new economy is coming but how does that help you?

It doesn't unless you take action and stop relying on your employer to take care of you, because they will not.

Is it the moral thing to do?

Well, as long as IBM maintains a U.S. workforce that is relative in size to sales in the U.S. verses other markets then I say it is ok.

The extreme is if they move 100% of their workforce to India and yet 80% of their sales are in the U.S. then I say no.

A capitalist may argue about efficiency and other drivel, but in the big picture if every company followed suit then the U.S. economy would tank and they would have zero sales here.

If you are a U.S. company and you sell in the U.S. market then you had better also have an adequate workforce here.

Some may argue that this is protectionism.

I argue that it is common sense.

Synsepalum Dulcificum Miracle Fruit

Also known as Magic Berry and Miraculous Berry, this fruit has super powers.

It kind of looks like a tomato and it has the ability to alter your sense of taste.

All you have to do is chew on the berries and then eat a meal.

What tastes bitter will now taste sweet.

What tastes sweet will now taste sweeter.

It is grown is West Africa but is now beng cultivated in South Florida.

Given enough testing and time, this fruit could be a boon to the weight loss industry.

It will help those suffering from obesity and diabetes.

Hot Valerie Bertinelli on People magazine cover

Valerie Bertinelli in a bikini, absolutely.

I have to admit growing up I watched Valerie Bertinelli on One Day at at Time. I was totally in love with her, she was so cute.

Now she is 48 years old, has lost a whopping 50 pounds on the Jenny Craig Diet, and appears on the People Magazine cover wearing a bikini.

Suddenly I am excited over Valerie Bertinelli again.

She recently published a book about her struggle with weight loss called, "Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time."

She told People Magazine "I'm just getting more and more comfortable in this body"

All I can say is her new body is making me uncomfortable, but in a good way.

Too bad we can no longer buy Jenny Craig stock, I suspect an increase in sales is coming.

Resveratrol

Biotivia Bioceuticals Resveratrol was featured on Life and Leisure Television today.

So what is Resveratrol?

Well it is a red wine ingredient being hailed as the "miracle molecule".

And this "miracle molecule" supposedly has many health benefits from increased energy to potential muscle building properties to reduced chance of heart disease and prolonged life.

If that is not enough there are also claims of other health benefits such as anti-aging and healthy, younger looking skin.

Not bad!

Resveratrol is truly a "miracle molecule".

Or is it?

I love red wine and I have to admit my skin is fantastic, but how much do I have to drink to live to say, 150.

Seems quite a lot.

So Resveratrol is now being turned into a supplement form so you can get the true results or Resveratrol without having to damage your body with alcohol or spending a small fortune on expensive wines.

To be honest I limit myself to fairly cheap local wine.

The truth about Cisco Fatty

Here is the twitter exchange that everyone is talking about, affectionately known as Cisco Fatty.

theconnor posted:

“Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work.”

Tim Levad responded back:

“Who is the hiring manager. I’m sure they would love to know that you will hate the work. We here at Cisco are versed in the web.”

The story goes that theconnor was contacted by Cisco and the job was withdrawn.

The truth is always more boring.

Per theconnor.net
Sometimes in the course of applying for a job, it becomes apparent that it’s a job you don’t want to do. I declined one such job early on Tuesday, and then, because I live at some distance from many of my close friends, I decided to use Twitter to tell them about what I had been thinking.

Let me tell you about how I use Twitter: I have 45 friends. I know all of them. They know me. 95% of them have lived in a dorm or a house with me. I practically can’t offend them, although sometimes I try.

Per cp24.com
However, Riley says she declined the job before posting the comment on Twitter, saying her story has been distorted by bloggers and the media.

"The 'job' I 'lost' was merely a summer internship I declined before I even tweeted about it," she told CP24.com in an email. "Any information you have pulled from other sources has largely been made up by bloggers."

It appears that this story has been overblown by the media and bloggers.

But the lesson is real, watch what you tweet.
